How Do I Tell People About God’s Kingdom?

How Do I Tell People About God’s Kingdom?

Picture
Recently we were asked how to share with others the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. Great question! Here are some suggestions, but always be led by the Holy Spirit over anything we may say! There is a great deal of scriptures here, but there is no better way to be prepared to be led by the Spirit than to be full of the Lord God’s Word!

First and foremost, of course, a person must accept Jesus as their Lord and King to see God’s Kingdom. Jesus is the door; He gives us entrance into His Kingdom and gives us access to His Father God. It is the Holy Spirit that draws someone to repentance and acceptance of Jesus as their Savior.

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

“What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?”

Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water (physical birth) and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.” John 3:3-8

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Me."
John 14:6

  • Pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance and that He will open the eyes of the person you are talking with and give you the words to say.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world (Satan) is judged… when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority,  but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. John 16:7-11, 13 NKJV

  • It is a process:  We have found that most of the time, seeing God’s Kingdom as a government is a process and comes in steps. Just speak from your spirit of what you have learned and how the Holy Spirit opened your eyes to see the Kingdom of God. He gives wisdom, knowledge and understanding to those who ask. Back up everything you say with scriptures.

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end. Isaiah 9:6-7a

  • Encourage them to read the 4 Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke and John for countless examples of Jesus talking about His Kingdom and also modeling life in His Kingdom. Note that Jesus didn’t teach about himself. He always told about the Kingdom of God and His Father. Religion focuses on Jesus, His death and His resurrection. It focuses on teaching us to hold on until we go to Heaven!  Why would God send us to earth only to "hold on" til we get to go back to Him? We are to fulfill His purpose while we are here, live an abundant Kingdom life and tell others the "good news of the Kingdom of God"!

And this gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:14

For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come. Hebrews 13:14

Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy. Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls. Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when He judges the world. 1 Peter 2:10-12

  • Keep in mind that Jesus “told stories” (parables) to give examples of what life in God’s Kingdom was like.

His disciples came and asked Him, “Why do you use parables when you talk to the people?”

He replied, “You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not. To those who listen to My teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them. That is why I use these parables, for they look, but they don’t really see. They hear, but they don’t really listen or understand.

This fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah that says, ‘When you hear what I say, you will not understand. When you see what I do, you will not comprehend. For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes—so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to Me and let me heal them.’

“But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, but they didn’t see it. And they longed to hear what you hear, but they didn’t hear it.” Matthew 13:10-17

Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, He never spoke to them without using such parables. This fulfilled what God had spoken through the prophet: “I will speak to you in parables. I will explain things hidden since the creation of the world.” Matthew 13:34-35

All of Matthew 13 is rich with Kingdom living principles!

  • Always be a living example of what life in God’s Kingdom looks like. We cannot be living examples of God’s Kingdom while looking like the world.

Be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12b NKJV

Whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Colossians 3:17

For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience (
those who habitually sin). Therefore do not be partakers with them.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. Ephesians 5:5-12 NLJV

  • Note also:  The Kingdom of God is the government of God’s Heavenly Kingdom brought back to His people through Jesus and governed by the Holy Spirit living in His people—citizens. Clearly, the Holy Spirit is our Governor in God’s Kingdom!

For those who are living according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh [which gratify the body], but those who are living according to the Spirit, [set their minds on] the things of the Spirit [His will and purpose]. Now the mind of the flesh is death [both now and forever—because it pursues sin]; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace [the spiritual well-being that comes from walking with God—both now and forever]; the mind of the flesh [with its sinful pursuits] is actively hostile to God. It does not submit itself to God’s law, since it cannot, and those who are in the flesh [living a life that caters to sinful appetites and impulses] cannot please God.

However, you are not [living] in the flesh [controlled by the sinful nature] but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God lives in you [directing and guiding you]. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him [and is not a child of God]. If Christ lives in you, though your [natural] body is dead because of sin, your spirit is alive because of righteousness [which He provides]. And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.

So then, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation, but not to our flesh [our human nature, our worldliness, our sinful capacity], to live according to the [impulses of the] flesh [our nature without the Holy Spirit]—for if you are living according to the [impulses of the] flesh, you are going to die. But if [you are living] by the [power of the Holy] Spirit you are habitually putting to death the sinful deeds of the body, you will [really] live forever.

For all who are allowing themselves to be led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading again to fear [of God’s judgment], but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons [the Spirit producing sonship] by which we [joyfully] cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit Himself testifies and confirms together with our spirit [assuring us] that we [believers] are children of God.  Romans 8:5-16 AMP

  • It is also easier to see God’s Kingdom as we see how manmade religious doctrines, traditions and rituals differ from God’s Word. They have nothing to do with the Kingdom as Jesus taught it.

Some Pharisees and teachers of religious law now arrived from Jerusalem to see Jesus. They asked Him, “Why do your disciples disobey our age-old tradition? For they ignore our tradition of ceremonial hand washing before they eat.”

Jesus replied, “And why do you, by your traditions, violate the direct commandments of God? For instance, God says, ‘Honor your father and mother,’ and ‘Anyone who speaks disrespectfully of father or mother must be put to death.’ But you say it is all right for people to say to their parents, ‘Sorry, I can’t help you. For I have vowed to give to God what I would have given to you.’ In this way, you say they don’t need to honor their parents. And so you cancel the word of God for the sake of your own tradition. You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you, for he wrote:  “‘These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’”

Then Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear. “Listen,” He said, “and try to understand.  It’s not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth.”

Then the disciples came to Him and asked, “Do you realize you offended the Pharisees by what you just said?”

Jesus replied, “Every plant not planted by my heavenly Father will be uprooted, so ignore them. They are blind guides leading the blind, and if one blind person guides another, they will both fall into a ditch.” Matthew 15:1-14

Matthew 23 is also an excellent chapter showing what Jesus thought of religious tradition!

The Holy Spirit’s Nature Revealed to His Citizens

The Holy Spirit’s Nature Revealed to His Citizens

PictureImage by Bruno from Pixabay
Let us take a look at how the Holy Spirit—Our Kingdom Governor—attends to His citizens in the fulfillment of His nature. The Lord Jesus made this statement concerning our Governor:  “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” John 14:25-26

The Lord Jesus also called Him the Spirit of TruthHowever, when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. John 16:13-14 He cannot tell you a lie. He speaks Truth from the Father. He will always glorify the King.

Whenever you hear other individuals promoting themselves as above another, you know it isn’t the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit isn’t just for a select few, but for all who will recognize and receive Him.  He will be with you always and forever. “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:15-17

The Holy Spirit is our Counselor and a Comforter for His citizens. The Greek word for counselor in these statements is Parakletos, which is described as an intercessor, counselor, advocate and comforter. But the Governor is also a guide and teacher, as I have mentioned in previously. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. John 14:26

All of these terms reveal the true nature of the Holy Spirit as our Kingdom Governor. As the Governor carries out the will of the Lord God in this world, through His citizens, we are to be in unity with His desires and intent for this earth. We are to fulfill our role as ambassadors over His territory. Keep in mind; we are not here to establish our Kingdom or a religion. We are here to establish the Kingdom of our Lord and King whom we represent. His Kingdom is not contained in a physical building. His Kingdom is in us and we take it wherever we go. This should be every Kingdom citizen’s prayer, no matter what we are praying for:  Your Kingdom come. Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10

Whatever we are praying for…whatever our will is…it will never be as great or perfect as His Will for us!

We are to fulfill the purpose and assignment that the Governor has given us from the King. Please understand this statement:  We were all born with a gift and a purpose. Some have more than others. But God has given us what we need. The gifts will assist you in your purpose and assignment.  For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn. Romans 11:29 NLT

So I am here to tell you today. It’s not too late, your sin wasn’t too great, you didn’t miss your moment, it isn’t over! Go back to the Father, repent, pick up His gifts for you and fulfill YOUR purpose and assignment! The Lord God will never take away your gift, it is irrevocable.

A good friend of mine once stated “There are so many gifts in the graveyard that have never been used or enjoyed by others.” They wasted their lives in other things and never embraced seeking the Kingdom. There are many people who are very religious, but never took the time to seek His Kingdom, that should have been their priority. They can’t find the Kingdom that is hidden by their religion! But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33

King Jesus never called people to start a religion. He didn’t tell people to worship Him. He told them to seek the Kingdom of God!

As I write this article, my purpose is to cause you to seek His Kingdom first. The Holy Spirit will guide and teach you to find His Kingdom and use your gifts to fulfill His purpose for your life! In His Kingdom you will find all you need to accomplish your assignment. The Holy Spirit is your teacher and guide. He will lead you to where you ought to be.

Remember, in order for you to know your purpose and assignment, you first must accept the King’s Son as your Lord and then seek His Kingdom. (The word Lord is where landlord comes from. Landlord owns and rules over His property. When we say Jesus is Lord, we are saying He rules over us, as His territory)

Your gift will always be with you until death, or should I say the graveyard. And remember, the Lord God won’t change His mind on what He has called you to do. I am blessed to be able to do what He has called me to do. But it took a long time and many mistakes to get to this place. If it were possible to lose His gifts and assignments, it would have been me. I say that to encourage you again that it isn’t too late and you haven’t lost it! Take the time to listen and speak to the Governor before you do anything.

Remember, your greatest asset is your faith in His Word.
